Hi all
Thanks for letting me join the club.
This is my first post and I'm after a bit of advice. I have recently purchased an SJ410, it doesn't look great but is pretty solid with a long mot. Since the purchase I have noticed the engine was pushing out oil in various areas including the dipstick. I checked all the breather system and could not find anything wrong. So I've decided to rebuild the engine as it has done at least 120K miles. At present I have the block being re-bored for new piston and rings, crank is being re-ground for new shells etc.
My problem is that that the cylinder head appears cracked, please see photos. The engine was running fine prior to removal, apart from the blowback and a bit of smoke, there was absolutely no oil contamination?
So, is it common for these to crack, should I be worried? I was going to get it pressure checked and skimmed and now I'm not sure it's worth it. Any advice is greatly appreciated, this is my first SJ, I've always liked them and I just want the engine to be reliable.
I do have another head but that appears to have surface corrosion on the head face and around a few of the water ports/openings, no obvious cracks though and so this may be usable but the corrosion is worrying me too.
Thanks all
