Hi everyone,

I am a fairly confident DIY / Hobby mechanic and have just picked up a suspected blown head gasket 2007 3Dr Grand Vitara. I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction regarding:

1) I know the engine is a M16A but the service manuals reference a 'JB' series. I cannot find any of this info in the sparse documents I have with the vehicle so not sure what version or where to source a service manual for maintenance?
2) Does anyone know of a compatible OBD scan tool for this vehicle available in the UK?
3) Can anyone recommend some good places to source parts such as gaskets etc and what brands to look out for that a quality or OEM? Can't seem to find much Suzuki branded parts in the UK and not sure who the OEM makers are.

Thanks

Had a good look once I had it at my home. The motor has done 77000 miles.

Firstly does anyone know what this part is that shows sign of oil?

The lower door trim on both sides is loose. Are these simply clip replacements?

No mayo in the oil / coolant but the exhaust does have white smoke after few mins idle. Did a compression test and seems cylinder 3 / 4 are down so I imagine gasket gone around that area:

Spark plugs don't seem too bad, although I was surprised by size of gap:

Do now I am thinking next step is:
- Order head gasket (can I reuse head bolts on this engine? or are they STY?)
- Try and get a decent workshop manual
- Replace water pump whilst I am there.
- Oil / Filter change
- Coolant flush and change

Any tips? Is it worth doing the valve stem seals whilst there? Timing chain? Or is this only advised if showing signs of wear / slack?

Thanks

Hi and :welcome:
Sorry cannot help with any specific tech stuff as we have an older GV
The Oil Leak pic looks a bit like a sensor/pressure switch but I cannot really see it clearly enough to be sure.
As to a code reader I just use one of the cheap wireless plug in OBD Dongle (similar to ELM327) + the Torque App on my mobile phone,it seems to do all the basics although it will have limtations.
Hope you manage to source the parts ok.
