sj 410 engine trouble

Hi all help needed my lads 410 put a rod out we have put another bottom end in with his old head all timing marks lined up seems to be getting fuel but no joy also when we turn it over with key it turns over then slows we turned it by hand and it felt locked then went with a clunk and freed up turn it with key and same happens again..any ideas

Is the engine trying to start? Could it be the starter motor?

Not at all.I could be 180 degree out with timing so going to try again

I would say 180 out, but not sure about the clunk
