Help major steering wobble NEWBIE

Picked up a SJ at the weekend all mint really looked after
The guy I bought it off told me the steering wobbled and not
To drive on the road until I changed the steering damper to
A Hevy duty decided to give it a whirl on the roads when I got it back
Home it seems when you hit a pot hole,letting off the gas or braking
Courses the steering to survealy shake until you reduce speed back
Down to 5-10 mph this problem could easily wipe me off the road if it
Happend in the wrong place.

Please any help guys

The Zuki has spoa conversion
Z steering bar
Massive springs and shocks
All been done professionally as what I can see
Il attach a photo
Also has pug 1.9 diesel fitted

Changing the steering damper for a HD one is a mistake as it will just mask the problem without getting rid of it, and it will eventually kill a new damper.
You want to jack the front wheels off the ground and wobble them from the top and bottom to see if there is any play or clunking. Get a friend to wobble while you look underneath.
If the wheel and brake disc wobble then you need new wheel bearings. If the entire hub with everything attached wobbles you need new kingpin bearings.
It could also be the angle of the axle where the SPOA was set up, but definitely check those bearings first with a wobble test.
Also check the steering bars and make sure that none of the joints have massive amounts of play.

I'm more of a 'keep it stock' guy, but I've got to say that is the neatest lifted SJ I've seen in a very long time! :D

You're steering wobble issue is well known in all off road communities, 'hope you get it sorted soon :thumbup:

Thanks bud I really like it too it's got the pug 1.9
Diesel in it has heeps of talk the only other option is to trailer

Hi check all the bolts on the springs as well, wobble will loosen everything and the play can damage the bushes

Can we have some closer pics of the front axle and prop shaft angle please.

Looks to me like the axle has been rotated, therefore you will have negative caster on the front, this will cause horrible handling and possibly the wobble, it needs to be sorted, this means cutting the spring perches off and welding them back on. If you measure the angle on the diff pinion flange face on level ground at ride height it should be 10*

Z-bars also don't really help with the handling, there's just too much angle in the drag link, half high steer would be a better set up.

As others have said, also check all bearings, rod ends and steering components for play.

If all of the above are sorted and the wobble is still there then the alignment and wheel balance needs to be checked.

If all of the above is sorted it should actually drive fine with no steering damper fitted.

Personally if it was me I would try to lower it a bit to help with driveline angles and stability, there's no need for it to be that tall and it will actually make it less capable off road.

10 degrees, as in if the pinion flange was vertical that would be 0*

It should be 10* slightly pointing up at the transfer box, any more than 13.5* and you are into negative caster and that's bad.
