Hi guys, brand new to the site so howdy!

I live in the middle of the Scottish countryside and having some of the finest British rain, wind and snow I decided to buy a 2008 GV 1.6 attitude 3dr. It's a lovely looking wee car and very comfy so I'm happy with it being a day to day runner but I'm a little concerned about it being a decent 4wd.

This only being my second 4wd my previous being an awd Impreza estate I just assumed the GV would have high and low gearing options but it seems like it doesn't so I'm a little unsure if I've even bought a worthwhile 4x4 for rough weather.

I know I'm prob gonna be shredded for buying a 1.6 and not a 2.4 or something so please feel free to help/advise/shred

Welcome to the forum. Permanent AWD should work well in most conditions including light snow but centre diff lock may have been nice for thick snow or mud. However you would have needed to be careful and remembered to unlock as soon as you get on a surface with grip. As it sounds like you using it for road use I think you really won't miss the low ratio.

I had a 2008 GV. Permanant 4wd. Was a hair dressers motor on 20" rims and low profile tyres.

Would never dream of doing the stuff i do with the samurai but as a wet weather and winter car it was great. Had it out in 8" of snow through the yorkshire dales with no issues.

I very much doubt you'll be disappointed, low ratio isn't required for any road use.

Thanks for the reply guys. I've been driving it now for 3/4 weeks and all in all I'm impressed so far. I've been in snow, ice and heavy rain and it's performed pretty well so far. Ice gave the car a twitchy back end but was alright. Comfortably moved through snow in control and it was great on really wet roads and large puddles. It's definitely not set up for off roading though!

I'm thinking about changing the tyres as the ones or it must have been on a while and have cracks so it's needing done soon Anyway. I've been looking at 225/65r17 General Grabber AT All terrain 4x4 tyres but at over £400 for a set only supplied and then £40 for fitting im not sure what to do.
