Hi everyone. Greetings from North Wales. New to the club but not 4x4 Suzuki ownership. Had a couple of SJ410s years ago and have owned my Jimny hardtop for 6 years or so. Very fond of my little 'thrash-bucket' and the 'get up and go' attitude it has. Brilliant off road in standard-trim, goes like the clappers on road and quite sporty for a 4x4, sticks to the road very well considering I'm running 195x15 Khumo Road Venturas, tows well etc etc. It is now on 115,000, has passed every MOT since I've owned it and apart from the usual oil, filters, cam-belt, pads, windscreen wipers and shoes has had no parts fitted. Now broken due to a wiring issue (help sought for this on the tech page) but I'm sure it'll be fixed soon with help from all you Jimny experts.

Re Jimny not as good, I would argue different strengths, different weaknesses. By 16 years old my SJs (both soft-tops) had started to dissolve body wise whereas my Jimny which is never washed, lives outdoors near the sea etc is still very good in that area. The Jimny is certainly not as adept in extreme off road situations with the coil-springs although still much better than my Disco or my Range Rover, but I need a good road car as well and the jimny is a damn fine road car that surprises me and the drivers of the cars that I leave behind on the bends. I don't play with my Jimny really but need to use it every day to access my smallholding, chase up the mountain, pull out things on the farm etc and then drive to work some distance away. Both SJ and Jimny have coped amazingly well with the track that kills almost any other car.. £20,000 to fix the track plus yearly maintenance or buy a Suzuki 4x4, not a difficult choice. Having said all of that, one of the best mud-pluggers I had was a UMM Tanscat 2.5D.

I don't think coil springs are necessarily a weakness for offroading - I'd say that the weakness was actually the control arms binding up, not the springs.

I don't like the Jimny's control arms, but I love the way they ride!

hi, good point. I guess it is always a trade off, between on-road, off-road. They are both tremendous vehicles and I was so impressed with the the performance of my SJ. Only 970cc but fun fun fun whether chasing things on road or climbing Welsh mountains, I do wish the jimny had less plastic bits on the outside of the bodywork though, It would be much better with factory fitted rubber wheel arches and metal bumpers.
