gv 20td error code p0243

hello, my wife's 2003 gv 20td has lost boost, if i keep my foot hard down it'll struggle to rev past 3-3.5 when it does rev past that it will boost like a rocket. Checked all pipes all ok, checked the pipe for the map sensor, ok. I got my hand down to the waste gate and moved it by hand thinking it may be jammed open, it seemed to move ok. I bought a obd scanner and it gave me p0243 code. So i bought a turbo boost solenoid from a scrappy, changed it and the code will not reset. I think this could get very expensive if i keep swapping bits i don't need to, so i would be very grateful of and help or suggestions. thanks Dave.

Taken off another site, but...
If you have a PO243 code you first need to identify which solenoid is the turbo control which is easily done by following the rubber tube up from the waste gate actuator (looks like a can with a rubber tube coming out the top)(also has a rod out the other end connected to the turbo ) control this is right next to the turbo.
it should be the lower of the 3 solenoids below the air filter.
But before you go any further check the map sensor tube is attached to the inlet manifold you will find this fight next to the dipstick under the intercooler follow that tube to the map sensor which is behind the expansion tank. mine was a simple fix the pipe had come off the intercooler hence tripping the fault code ! simples !
However if this isnt the case with yours you need to swap one of the three solenoids with the lower one to prove the solenoids defective I used the top one which controls the egr ( make sure you reconnect ALL the solenoids back up) or you will trip another code ! reset the ecu with an obd2 reader, i was lucky as I have access to one.
run the car up the road see if the turbo kicks in ? if it does your sorted if it doesn't you know need to to check that the wastegate actuator is functioning ...you can see this with a good torch looking under the rubber air filter feed pipe head down by headlight ! now rev the engine using the throttle control sensor adjacent to the air filter where the throttle cable connects!
if the the rod is moving when you throttle up then you know the actuator is working !
If your still in shit you can also feel the solenoids you will have to touch all 3 whith the engine running for a few minutes you will notice that the turbo control solenoid feels warmer than the rest which means its working properly or not ? therefore you know need to check all those little vacuum hoses for a split pull them off to see if there is any oil or water in them. they should be clean and dry. if you have oil in them you have another problem if its water then its a quick fix ! as I discovered whilst cleaning the engine with the motor running I got water on those three solenoids what I didn't realise is they have a filter / air intake on the bottom and subsequently sucked in water from the jet wash! not a lot just a mist then this will make the solenoid misbehave.
you can tell this as the turbo cuts in and out under acceleration. just pull the vacuum hoses off the solenoid and check for water. if so you now need to remove the solenoid from the car and un clip the the lower section very carefully and blow through with an airline to clear all the moisture out. do the same with the affected pipes reassemble and all should be good. hope this helps. regards Andy
If you are going to regularly going to go through water I would probably move the solenoids up a little higher in the engine bay ! just a thought

Hi thanks for the reply. I've read that on another site also. I have swapped the solenoid with another to no effect. I've reved the engine and observed the waste gate moving, it only moves a fraction mind. I've checked the map sensor pipe and is clear and attached. It doesn't make sense I think it's off to a garage in go for a live read out diagnostics.

Not that it's my specialty, but have you cleaned out the wastegate, could be coked up?

No. Do you think it maybe the waste gate not moving fully? Would that give me that error code?

Ok. It was the maf sensor, unplugged it and it's back to normal. Thanks for your help guys.

Glad to hear it was such a simple fix!
