Hello.
I've got a SJ410, i'm running 235's on it.
The gearing is to tall for the poor little engine.
I came accross this and wondered if anyone has ever fitted a second gearbox between the main gearbox and the transfer box.
Look at this link : ://www.suzuki-samurai.nl/volvo/volvo-eng.html

It looks like a very interesting conversion, but is it really worth all the hassle and possibly expense when the easiest option i would think is just put a Vitara 1.6 engine in,alot easier i would have thought and is the most popular option.

I dont own a SJ anymore but i will admit mine was a bog standard 1.3 with suitable offroad tyres, never got stuck yet in the old SJK or my old Vitara.

There's better and easier ways to lower your gearing.

I run twin transfer boxes in mine and TBH unless it was an offroad only / comp toy I wouldn't do it again. much easier to just gear the sj transfer box and diffs to match the tyre size you are running.

And/or swap in a 1.6 litre and a 1.3 gearbox?

Ok, thanks. Any ideas as to just what i need to buy.
The engine and gearbox are both standard SJ 410, the tyres are 235's.
Thought about fitting LJ80 diffs but hens teeth are easyer to find.
Any ideas would be greatly recievded.

It should be fine on 235s on standard hi range gearing on road as long as it has a healthy engine.
Off-road would benefit from a rock lobster tbox though, they are the same gearing as a 410 box in high but lower in the low ratio.

Stepping up to a 1.6 engine is one of the best things you can do in an SJ though so I would plan for it in the future.

What Scottie said. My first zook was a 410 and I put 215's on it and it was a bit slow to be honest. (never that quick on standard tyres). Best option is a 1.6 vit engine but if you want to keep it simple go for the carb version, a lot less wiring involved.
