Hi guys, I was I bit of in idiot today. Had my rear axle apart to replace the diff and wheel bearings and have reassembled the half shafts without the back plate for the drum. Tryed getting them back off again but as you can imagine it's imposble. Any way I can make the hole bigger in the backing plate or is it a case of cat them off and start again. It's an sj 413 1987
Also I've seen some wheel spacers on eBay. 55mm each side. Set of 4 for £160 are they advisable for off road use or are they just going to cause problems.
Thanks

I wouldn't run a spacer that wide.

It is possible to get the bearings back off the rear shafts if you heat the retainer up enough.

Need a good press and some decent heat though.

That's a bit large for a spacer. I use 32mm on the LJ and 40mm on the Vitara.

The wheel bearing fitted through the backplate on my Samurai.
If yours doesn't I'd open the hole up until they slip over the bearing. The bolts hold it as true as it needs to be, the bore is just clearance.

Same here, if you have the bearing retainer plate already on, the drum back plate slips over the top of the bearing - mine didn't at first, but then I had it blasted and painted, and now it does! So you should be ok,

Some don't. It depends on which type it is.

One type has a separate retaining plate and on the other the drum backplate is all that retains the bearing.

You can buy two piece bearing retainers from muddyzook but I don't know if they'll work with drums. Pretty sure they're meant for rear disk conversions.

They should work fine with drums, mine did well until my bearing, shaft and collar split... Split bearing retainer still in place though.

Why do you want to make your SJ 110mm wider?
