Winch hawse position

Hi all,

Starting to get to grips with building a winch bumper, but

I'm assuming that the Center of the hole where the winch rope would come through the hawse, should be at the same level as the last layer of rope on the winch drum.

Can any one confirm or correct me ? :er:

Cheers

Yes. A winches maximum pull is on the 1st layer on the drum and at that point the rope should go straight through the hawse / fairlead to cause minimum resistance for maximum winch efficiency.
