Evening chaps, I have some spotlights that I would like to put on my new Vitara but I would also like to have a separate switch inside to turn them on and off, not a relay with the high beams. What's the best way to do this please ? Many thanks, Eddie

Wire them up with a relay anyway, but instead of the relay being activated by the headlight wire, run a wire from the ignition to the switch and then to the relay.
You don't really want to do battery-switch-lights as you would need quite a high amperage switch, otherwise it could melt it

I'm afraid your going to have to bare with me as I don't understand wiring one bit, ha ! Now, relays have four terminals right, and each one is different. How do I know which wire goes to which terminal. Also when you say run a wire from the ignition to the switch, how do I run a run a wire from the ignition.

Personally I am lazy and take the ignition connection from the + terminal on the ignition coil... Then it receives power when you turn the ignition on
Use 30a wire for pins 30 and 87, and a 30a fuse.

Hmmmm................ I'm confused, had a look at it all this morning, now I know this is going to sound stupid but I can't see any ignition coil
Where the lead normally leads from the dizzy cap to it there isn't one. It looks like this one. Also what is the part that I've arrowed. Thanks, Eddie

The bit you've arrowed looks like the wiper motor.
The ignition coil is just to the left of it, black with a reddy/brown top. There should be a + and - terminal on it. I think that is what Twiss suggested to use.
The other picture you have put up is a distributor cap.

Mine definitely hasn't got one of those, ha. The picture of the distributer cap is like the one I've got, normally the middle one is where the ht lead leads to the coil but mine doesn't have a lead leading to anything, nor can I see anything that resembles an ignition coil

You can also use a connector block (not a scotch lock) and connect it into the wire for the cigarette lighter socket.
The relay will not require much power to operate so you will be ok with the standard fuse
However, this will allow anything connected to the relay to work with just the car electrics turned on and not the ignition
Otherwise you can connect it into the main ignition wire in the back of the ignition barrel... Not sure on the wire colour for your vitara though
