Shouldn't be to expensive to fabricate something like that yourself with an old rim, a metal lathe, a wheel-balancer and some welding.

Seen one of those before. If you have no other way of recovering your vehicle, then go for it - but honestly, that's a lot of work to get it on and off your vehicle. I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle.
And I'd be worried about the extra stress on the wheel studs - which *can* snap under normal load, imagine what they can do with that thing attached!
If you're in a situation where you can't get out, get your mates to pull you out. Unless you're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, you should always have a mate with a truck with you for recovery purposes!
Or front and rear winches. *AND* a mate with a truck!

I'm getting a pair for the saab's for x-mas. I think it's an amazing idea for cars that you can't or won't put a winch on.

they use special wheelstuds, so it just pops on and off. I would be worried by the huge strain on your wheel bearings more than anything

Special wheel studs, or special wheel nuts?
If it needs the wheel studs pressing out and new ones pressing in, that's a lot of messing about. And are they stronger than standard wheel studs?
If it's just new wheel nuts, then the issue of snapping wheel studs that I brought up earlier still stands - will the studs hold up under the added stress?
And yes, it'll put a lot of stress on your wheel bearings too!
Might be ok for occasional light use for recovering a road car stuck in the snow or something. A hand-crank winch might be better though.
