Hi. I just found some comfortable leaf spring shackles

for the sj. Has anyone ever used these
if so are they any good and are they easy to fit.
Thanks

linkeydink? I'd imagine none of us have used them (never heard of them before) - which either means they're crap and everyone avoids them, or they're too new an idea for anyone to have tried them.

I wouldn't mine a look at them.

If you want a softer ride, have you thought about longer leaf springs and/or PTFE tape between your leaf springs?

I have never seen them before either. Quite exspensive
though. Have a look on ebay or google it.

They're not braced in any way; I don't like them.

Don't like the idea of those. If they're designed to flex, so as to give you a little extra "spring" in your suspension, then they'll bend laterally too. Imagine your axle under lateral forces as you corner to the right - they bend laterally too and your whole axle moves laterally to the right, causing bumpsteer when there isn't even any bumps.

I thought initially that they would triangulate each other but if they can compress, then it's possible for one shackle on each leaf to compress as it bends laterally while the other stretches as it bends laterally.

This all assumes they're soft enough to actually soak up any of the suspension movement transferred into them.

Let some other nutter try them out first, I have a sneaking suspicion that they're £117.90 worth of scrap and/or impending doom.

You're much better off with UHMWPE tape, I think. You need 2.5 inch wide (I *think*), but you might get away with a 2" roll and a 0.5" roll...

I can't see how the shackles would make the ride more comfortable, it's the springs & dampers that give the flex and rebound, the shackles are just a pivot point,

Complete bullshit. Won't do anything but empty your wallet and fill theirs.
