Decided I wanted to build an RC SJ a while a go and have finally started it

Muddymesser sent me a Tamiya monster truck as a base to start the build from, I then bought a set of black 8 spokes by RC4WD and a set of tyres that are scale to 35's

The body was originally a SWB but with the wheel base being longer than the body I decided to make it a one off long wheel base

I know real LWB's have an extra few inches behind the rear wheel as we'll but I have seen a few that have just been chopped and extended so it's still kind of realistic haha

So this is how far I've got...

I would like to get some softer springs or add some weights to the chassis so it flexes up a bit easier, but will see how it goes when I get it running

Just need more plastic
Shoe goo
Some flexible filler
And a radio set

I know lean bodies are usually painted on the inside so the paint is protected but I'll be spraying the outside of this due to my extending of the body, but I'll give it a load of coats of clear coat just for a bit more protection, I don't exactly have intentions of crashing it all the time haha

Update may be a while for this yet with the caravan, puppy and car keeping me busy...

Small update for now but making progress..

The radio kit came in the post and the battery to power the speed controller, I have had it all connected up and working, the diff needs a rebuild as Ben said it's slipping and not driving properly so I have ordered a set of new gears for it

The body is coming together nicely now just needs some filling here and there and paint

Not sure what colour to do it yet but I've got a couple of cans of red in the shed to use as a first coat to see how it all looks

Going to make a bulkhead and floor in the cab and need to buy some 1/10 scale seats, I have a dashboard from a land rover D90 that I'll modify to fit and maybe make it light up when the headlights come on...

Anyway here are a couple of pics of the body now, will get some better pics of it on the chassis later...

Don't forget to mask off the windscreen etc and use primer first!

The paint I have is for plastic so I'm guessing it should work right?

Windows are already masked off just need to mask the lights and grill..

If not I'll have to walk down motorworld for some plastic primer

I was thinking of using the black plastidip I have as the final coat so it's Matt black but not sure what colour to go for yet

I'd still go for primer...why not paint it like your old SJ?

The red paint I have in the shed iswhat I used on the headlight surrounds on my old SJ so I might just do it in that, made some more progress, goot a bit of a bulk head in and a bit of a floor coming to shape, headlights glued in and body mounts sorted, pics to come soon...

Got a bit of an update, made a little winch bumper and just waiting on the fairlead to go on the bumper to finish it off and will paint it black

Gave the body a couple of coats of red and used some sikaflex to seal up the joins and tidy the edges

Here are some pics...

Thought about using the old bullbar hoop from the original bumper on the winch bumper but I'm not sure...

Painted body..

Couple more pics, thought I'd pop the body on the chassis and see how it looks and I pretty happy with it now :)

Just waiting for the Sickaflex to set and then I'll give it a few more coats of paint and start getting the lights in and mirrors on

Another view of the bumper..
