Hello every one, I am thinking of doing an engine swap on my SJ 413 1990, I have the chance of a vauxhall 1700 Diesel from a combi van. The engine is non turbo.
Has any one done this conversion any advise would be much appreciated I think that a gearbox from a Opel Manta will fit on the combi bell housing.

VW turbodiesels seem popular. Had one in a 350k passat and it ran like new. Bombproof and masses of torque

Depends how long high the engine is, as for the LDV I had to go SPOA which I really disliked and I'm now reverting back to petrol and SPOA...

I fitted a 1.5td Isuzu engine out of a corsa mated to an omega gearbox it is not a conversion for the feint hearted. I believe this to be one of the easier diesel engines to fit, but i still had to fab new engine mounts, modify the clutch flywheel and release bearing, widen the transmission tunnel have a custom intermediate prop made, a custom radiator for the extra cooling required. Etc etc etc... I still have bugs to work out 3 years later. But have done 6000 miles with only 2 minor breakdowns (thottle cable& coolant hose). And for what I use my sj for, I think it is a mint conversion.
