Just thinking out aloud now.

If it's the fronts that are bending due to winching, I would think it is behind the axle, as the front is on shackles, and not firmly secured, so you are able to push the axle back. EDIT: I've just checked back to P.65, and it is the back of the front spring

If you did a shackle reversal, the front would be more positively secured, and go into tension, not allowing the axle to move back further, and this will stop the spring behind the axle bending.

You would loose a bit of flex though :thumbdown:

OR, could you look to fit a bam bar set up, from the FRONT of the chassis to the axle???? This would help stop it pushing back :thumbup:

Does that make sense?

If clamping the leaves doesn't work what about running a small suck down winch mounted in front of the axle to pull it up and forwards while winching, will counter act the winching trying to push the axle back.

The issue is the missing links, when they open the springs is free to swing back, this is when it's put in the position to bend. We are talking hard winching though, it's only done it in extreme situations.

My plan is to use some other springs I have, and the top leaf will wrap around the current top spring at each end, a loose fit to still allow flex, have them clipped as far back as possible, I think that would cure it.

I flat refuse to fit a bam bar front or rear, I don't see the need, and there is no way I will reduce my front flex.

I spoke to someone not so long ago who made there links with a pin, so you could lock them to stop them opening. I could look into this, but I think it's a faff.

Winching forward = pushing axle back. Rear end of spring is a fixed point so the spring becomes the weakest link. I"ve had similar problem with d- flex shackles, they drop, wheel hits something hard and spring takes full load end on and folds on eye.

A properly designed bam bar won't reduce flex. A horizontal anti-wrap bar will, but that's not what we're suggesting.

That won't reduce flex, it'll just stop axle wrap. You could articulate nearly 90 degrees in either direction before it started to bind (and even then, it wouldn't "bind" - the axle casing would hit it).

Bam bar for the win!

Anton !! It's not axle wrap mate !!

It's the spring compressing. Not axle wrap. The sping is being forced back, I don't have any axle wrap.

A bam bar won't stop the axle from being forcing back under winching.
