Re: Dan_2k_uk's super shed thread!
I have now completed all the required calculations to get full pricing for the cladding.
Don't know which way to go now. I wanted to go with shiplap for quite a few reasons. Mainly for neatness and because I thought it would be more weather proof etc.
Looked at a few DIY forums and quite a lot of people are using feather edge with good results and the price diffeence is huge. Also it is less susceptible to leaving gaps if it shrinks a bit.
Here are the prices for the cladding.
Style 1 - Front and Sides Clad and then using WBP ply for rear 2 panels:
WBP Ply to make up Back is about £140. Shown added on in brackets.
Siberian Larch Feather Edge 19mm thick- 25mm overlap £205.92 (£345)
Siberian Larch Shiplap 20mm thick - £379.62 (£520)
Wickes Spruce Shiplap 12mm thick - £219.45 (Only 1.8m lengths) or £258.12 (2.4m lengths) - Would still need treating! (£360) or (£400)
Wickes Pressure treated Feather Edge - £86.24 (Only 11mm thick so not worth it) (£230)
Style 2 - All outside surfaces clad:
Siberian Larch Feather Edge 19mm thick - 25mm overlap £343.20
Siberian Larch Shiplap 20mm thick - £632.70
Wickes Spruce Shiplap 12mm thick - £380.38 (Only 1.8m lengths) or £408.69 (2.4m lengths) - Would still need treating!
I want to go with Larch really for its brilliant properties. Mainly the lack of having to bother treating it for 50 years
I'm starting to think the back sides made of WBP ply idea was just laziness and fully clad would be better.
What would you guys do??

I wasn't going to bother with windows but a few have tried to ask why not.
My main reason was security but it would help with selling the house in the future if it was more of a garden shed than Fort Knox.
Maybe I should look at a front window with internally lockable sliding metal sheet or a metal frame with mesh over it. Could easily be removed in the future if I don't want it so secure and will save a few square meters of cladding too.

I would bother with a metal frame / cover.
Shop about glass suppliers. Its not mega expensive. Just buy a double glazed toughened panel i. The size you want and make the frame to fit it. Make the frame so the glass goes in from the inside.
If anyone tried to smash through it you would definately hear them. Of do you remember the old single glazed panes with the wire mesh reinforcement?

Re: Dan_2k_uk's super shed thread!
Travis Perkins is owned by wickes and previous experience Wickes feather edge is crap! Also When i was building my workshop we got out wood from Stamco and we had to reject it and send it back to there depot as we have never seen so many knots and twisted in the wood!
so i would recommend getting your would from covers as all our building materials have been spot on you might pay the extra but you certainly ask your self why!
i would go got the ship lap all the way around a build in a window in my own opinion.

Wickes is usually cheap rubbish for the DIY market, Wickes are also frequently guilty of my pet peeve - storing wood upright. I used to get a lot of wood from a TP wood yard and its was a lot better quality, intended for the trade, and stored flat and I got to pick the wood from a better selection too.

Those prices apart from the Wickes ones were from my local yard Vastern timber. Anyone from this way got any experience with them.

Well I've gotta crack on with it now.
There's a big stack of wood arrived today so I have no parking space and 3 8'x4' sheets of OSB in my lounge!

I can't belive you've put timber in the lounge. Kitchen must already be full.
