Cheers, Its a good idea mounting the battery pannier style, I might do that, I have two batteries anyway I could mount them one on each side to keep the COG lower, I was worried that adding extra weight would make it suffer in the snow.... which it sort of skims over the top of but how often does it snow?

I'm not sure I would mount nimh batteries on the side as they are quite big but it could work with the SJ shell, I used to have 3 cells on a plate above the front links and 3 on the rear axle

These lipos though are tiny and weigh hardly anything so I thought i'd try it on the side.

Well its been sat on top of the kitchen cupboard for a while and today I dug it out,My aim was to lower the battery down to get a better COG, the only space available was down either side between the wheels, so I mounted a battery to each side (pannier style), this should keep my centre of gravity much lower. To do this I used a few body posts, some channel I had laying around from an old fire surround and some 15mmx15mm aluminium box section, first I tried to tap the box section for mounting but struggled getting a good thread on the 1.5mm thick wall, so i opted for bolt fixings instead.









With the body on you can see it is a tight fit but ok!





I mounted the battery boxes low enough to protect the lexan body from scraps as it did sometimes 'ground' on the sills, with these mounted a couple of mm lower the body shouldn't get damaged

I've been thinking about getting lipo batteries for my clodbuster, and a sammy shell.

A few more bits for the SJ, and then perhaps it'll be time for a mini-sj of my own (as "mini" as clodbuster's get, anyway)...

You'll never guess what was in Toys 'R' Us today.
It was a whole £25, which I didn't think was too bad. It even has a differential. The body is actually really nicely detailed and made of some fairly tough plastic, though obviously the RC side of things is a bit crap. I also know that one of those 'out-of-print' speedway pal bodies can cost more than £25.

So I figured I'd the denephew play with it until the RC side of things is borked and keep the body to make something out of. The rough wheelbase of the body is about 6 inches, though the actual wheelbase is a bit longer 'cause the front wheels are a bit far forward.

It takes four AAs, but I might try upping the voltage for shits 'n' gigs, like a 9V PP3 or something.

I've finally gotten around to working on my project I've been cooking up for a while.

Here's where I'm at:


I've got the body off. Holes for the body posts measured and drilled. Reciever and ESC relocated. Lights partially fitted. However, I've hit a bit of a brick wall. I need some way of extending and strengthening the front body posts and I need to try and find and fit some 1/14 scale drift wheels.

The chassis is a HPI Micro RS4 because the wheelbase matched up with the body. After crunching some numbers, the body is roughly 1/13.5 scale but as the Suzuki SJ/Samurai is such a dinky little truck so far 1/14 scale accessories are looking good, such as the 'driver', who fits perfectly.

I can't find any 1/14 scale wheels and drift tyres as yet. I think that 1/10 scale will be too big, but I'm going to order some anyway as they're only like £15 and see what I can see.

Hopefully as they're drift tyres the bigger size won't strain the drivetrain too much, 'cause they should spin.

Anyone got any advice, suggestions or links to parts I'd appreciate it.
