Oh well...FRIDAY the 13th!!!!!! GRRRR.....my samurai just DIED!
Would start this morning......same issue......put key in, dashboard lights all ok, but when turning the key sound as if battery dead.
Have had to go to work, but neighbour going to change battery and see if its the battery....if not I will have to try and get a mechanic to come to my house and see if he can fix.....Oh well thats my weekend ruined.....and its my 30th birthday on sunday....and Its the half term holidays.....WHY?!?!?!

Try bridging the large terminal to the small terminal on the starter... This will give full battery power to activate the solenoid, instead of going through the ignition barrel.
If this works reliably, then your problem is probably a corroded starter wire
(The seem to corrode internally from my experience)

Update:
Changed battery and car is running fine now...starts no problem.
Only doesnt start first time in the morning.......only starts second time....but then during day starts first time and no problem.
So changed battery and all good.
