Is it the front bit that doesn't fit? The "nose cone"
I might have a spare one around that is cracked and needs tig welding

Re: Starters for sj 1.6 conversion
I had loads of trouble getting a bosch starter for my Jimny, I found bosch has a section on there site that lists all the starters they do and the cars they are used in. Found there are a few cars that use the same starter just the wrong nose cone.Did take a while, could be worth trying
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

Re: Starters for sj 1.6 conversion
Please note anyone that reads this thread from now on.... the D6RA13 is the starter that will fit on a samurai gearbox.
D6RA62 is one that is commonly available for spares.
However, it is advisable to take the gears out of a D6RA572. They are more hard wearing (the outer toothed collar has larger teeth) and this is probably the most common Valeo starter out there.... found on petrol peugeot 106
The 13 is still listed here, but the picture shows a larger starter. I haven't called them to confirm what size it is

There are also some part numbers listed for Lucas and mitsubishi starters that might be of use

I can confirm the one I linked to on the previous page will fit a 1.6 lump in an SJ. would also appear I already had a skinny starter.
