I'm thinking about u bolts through the wing with backing plates to stop them coming through and a bracket welded to the side of the scuttle to bolt it to.

There isn't a lot of weight to it, if i can avoid drilling and welding to the actual pillar i will.

Looks good , you could make a bracket to clamp to the pillar water rail/channel and use that to mount the snorkel pipe to that way you dont have to drill or weld and its easily removed if needed

Hmmm, could be onto something there. I think i have a spare CB gutter mount bracket somewhere.

I would recommend keeping your precleaner and using an airbox off a different vehicle over a K&N style filter anyday on an offroader. K&Ns don't filter out the finer particles like paper filters do and don't really offer any performance gains. In other words in the long run they are worse for you engine.

L200 airboxs look quite good http://bit.ly/141gCaq not sure how big they are though.

Plan devised.

I have some thicker tubing i can use to sleeve the snorkel. I'm going to weld tabs onto this and bolt that to the body work.

As much as i dont want to, i think the easiest way to fix the upright on will be to bolt right through the window pillar.

I'll give that a go tomorrow. Needs to be pretty solid so it doesn't get ripped off.

I've already ordered that snorkel top Scottie, i'm hoping as its a propper snorkel filter it'll be quite fine. Failing that i can resort back to some sort of set up with a standard air box.

To me it just looks like an aluminium tub screwed onto a cheap 'K&N style' filter, if it is then personally I wouldn't want to use it, I know its a bit late now you've ordered it though :thumbdown: to be honest I wouldn't even use a K&N on a road car :lol:

Interesting reading.

I'll see how it goes. I know that this route next sunday will involve water so any snorkel will be better than not going out or filling the cylinders with pond water.

Finally decided on some mounts. Its all in place and useable but i need to weld it all up. The brackets are bolted to the wing and scuttle end with washers to space them out. Currently just has cable ties around the snorkel these are fine at 60mph and easily replaced should i snap them.

Needs the bolts welding captive into the brackets and the brackets welding to the snorkel for a more solid fix.

I wasn't sure about it at first but it doesn't look as bad as i thought it would. Once the brackets are all welded i think it'll be spot on.

lookin good dude! im gathering all the bits I need for one on mine at the moment. only a budget one for now until I can afford a metal one like yours. does it affect the insurance/ count as an insurance worthy modification?

This is only temporary, i want one with less exposed tubing, probably coming out of the scuttle. See how this one goes for now.
