Today I decided to just have a fiddle with the carb, turned down the idle while she was hot. Now idles at about 900rpm when up to temp, and fiddled with the choke a bit so that it idles at 1700rpm when cold with the choke fully out. Initially wound it out waaaay too far and it was idling at 3500rpm with the choke fully out - that's hardly idle!!!

Took it for a spin later, and now it's idling at 1000 without choke (up to temp too). Runs nice, starts real easy with a bit of choke.

Neat-o. What carb are you running? Perhaps an auto choke add on might be an idea? Piglet 6 has one. A Mikuni auto choke on a Weber carb of all things! It does work though...(about the only thing that sodding does on that car lol)

SU HIF44. I have no idea if/how to fit an auto choke!

I might do a bit of reading. But truthfully, there's so much else to sort, that's always going to be fairly low down the list! Next thing I want to do with her is sort out bumpstops. I have bought a set, just got to get them on the wee beastie.

How are you doing lately? Fancy a laning trip sometime soon?

I arranged to go to Faversham this weekend, but I can do almost any other time.

Started making myself a new set of mounts for my new seats (I say new, I think I bought them from Mike about a year ago...) and my welding...

Image

Now, I'm not the greatest welder in the world, but that's not even close to representing the kind of welds I normally put down. A little purturbed, I ground it back, tried again. Same thing. As I'm welding along, the arc keeps jumping all over the place, the wire seems to pool up to the left or right, I can't penetrate the work - so I borrowed Scottie's welder and laid down half a dozen decent welds in seconds.

Image

You've got to respect a tool that costs £800 a lot more than one that costs £200. I think I need to start saving up for a welder that isn't utterly b0rked.

Had to grind it all back flush so the runners can sit one side, the other side sits flush against the seat.

Anyhow, ended up with this:

My brain's been foggy the whole time though. I should be ready to bolt it all down, but when I came to do so I found that the bolt holes don't line up with the seat quite right. I was careful to make sure they did before tacking it up, I guess it warped a little while I was welding it.

I'll have to redrill it to match up with the bolt holes again, then put one of the new seats in.

What's worrying me is that's taken me the best part of 2 days. My health is really crap, but this should've taken me a couple of hours, tops.

Well, seat should be in tomorrow. Going offroading on Sunday at Cuddy Munts in Faversham, after that I'll put the passenger seat in too.

Health permitting!
