Sit rep, Scottie was right after all. I took off everything I could think of and it was all fine. Felt behind the carb and felt a bit of a blow but thought that was just the fan. Removed fan and got a mate to blip the throttle and AHA! There is a sodding bolt missing out of the back of the carb! So, new bolt in and she runs as normal. She was parked up at my garage with the doors off for about 3 weeks and the local cats have used her as a hotel...I have managed to get the fur off the seats!

Still trying to get the canvas doors to fit properly, passenger side is as snug as a bug but drivers door still has vast gaps, tried to heat it and bend the locating pins in but I'm still out by maybe 20mm.

So a big thanks to Scottie! Cheers matey I owe you a pint (or eight).

Had another go at the doors tonight. Passenger side looks like it's been restored in the past and the perspex window cleaned up a treat. Driver's side is poor though, I managed to glue the window back to the door and that bit cleaned up ok, next step is fix the stitching and figure out how to get 2 sheared bolts out of the door latch...

DAMMIT! Starter motor #3 just packed up...ignition on and just a 'click' coming from it. Got the girls at the coffee shop to give me a bump start (would have preferred something else) and got her home. Tried again and she fired up! Does anyone have a clue as to what is causing this? The starter is wired correctly...I'm stumped.

Could it be an ignition fault? don't know about LJ's, but I know old Samurais are known for it, easy to fix tho'.

Yeah, "clicky" starters are a common thing on SJ's, the solenoid needs more amps to engage than the wiring can supply when the wiring gets old.

Try shorting the large starter terminal to the little one with a screwdriver. If it fires up every time that way you need the clicky starter fix. If not its the solenoid thats no good

Went to Low Range to order the clicky starter kit, no joy as when I try to enter my phone number it says 'invalid' I have emailed them and we'll see what happens! Thanks lads, I'm hoping this will fix it.
