Yeah, I knew it was going to be the kind of job that can generate swear words from a particularly serene monk, so I decided to cheat.

Actually works pretty well!

I just give it a wiggle and they usually move out of the way as you slide the armature in :lol:

I slide each brush in as i wiggle the armature in :lol: there is a bit of a technique to it but you get that hang of doing it when you have rebuilt as many as me :lol: think i have a starter apart every few months :lol:

Been going through this thread again as I know there was a point I needed clarifying.

So a quote from Anton reads...

Matey you aren't restricted to 4 strokes only, it's just that due to EU emissions tests a 2 stroke would never pass. That's why none are made new anymore. You can however find some cheap 2 stroke lil' screamers on ebay for maybe £1000, like Suzuki RG125, Yamaha RD etc, even Cagiva Mito's (look like a Ducati 916 and good for 100mph).

Hope you are feeling a bit better and if you decide to get a licence get a 2 stroke 125!! More fun than a fun thing....

Bit of research...early model RD125's are stupidly expensive as they are classed as a classic bike, later models a lot cheaper, RG125's rare and spares almost nil. Best bet is the Mito. 31bhp (yes as a learner bike) 101mph, 130 kgs. It hits the rev band at 8000rpm and apparently takes off like a whippet with a firework up it's arse. It has the same kind of power as my old Yamaha RD250LC and that was a scream to ride. They need a top end rebuild about every 9500 miles but a piston and cylinder are under £50. And they look like a Ducati 916, in my opinion the sexiest bike on the planet.

I'm on the hunt for one at the moment but I plan to fit a YPVS 350 engine in it...I have one kicking around..
