The latest on the leading.. I'm waiting for the courier to deliver the goods, shouldn't be long now.
( Having said that I've been keeping busy with other bits and pieces.. I've started to build a sand/soda blasting cabinet big enough to put a VW door in.)

And I've alot of stuff to clean up... Just had a new compressor and pressure sand blasting pot delivered along with the gloves and glass.Just waiting for a day off to put it all together.

Edit : Glass fitted/gloves fitted/compressor and sand blasting pot up and running/lead loading isn't as easy as it looks :o(

Sorry about the up dates or..the lack of them.. Not on the road yet and don't thing I will be for about a year.
The camper body is completely stripped and I've started cutting the rot away.
Removing the wiring loom was a pain but I guess the rewire will be worse as I'll have to use part of the original wiring and a lot from the above engine which is to be fitted.
The previous owner removed some structural chassis parts which I'm having to rebuild.

The D posts don't meet the chassis and the rear structural inner valance had been removed so there is no strength in the rear of the vehicle and it would never pass an MOT like this.

Cutting the rot away.
When I fit the new engine I'm going to need a decent gear box that can handle a bit more than the original horses so I need a 6 rib 091 box.. I've seen a couple sell on ebay for £550 upwards.. I found one for less than half of that.

Lead loading.. Don't waste your time.. It can warp your panels just as quick as welding if your not an expert.
I'll try not to leave the next update so long but I only get a day a week to work on it.

Subaru EJ20 non turbo.
I,ve been told that a Subaru conversion can cost up to £5000.. I'm trying to do it for £1000.
So far I've sold the original VW engine and the carbs for £706.
I've bought the 6 rib gerabox needed to cope with the extra power for £250 and the complete subaru for £512. That leaves me £56 out of pocket but I'll take all the pieces needed from the Subaru and sell all other unwanted parts.I'll also get a few quid for the original 1600 gearbox.
I'm hoping that the sale of unwanted parts will go a good way to buying the bell housing needed to match the 6 rib box to the Subaru engine and the engine support bar.

One of my mates part owns fellow Speed Shop who specialise in Scooby conversions and yes...I think it can cost a minimum of £5k to have the job done. But there is a fair amount of labour involved

One of my son's mates has just completed his Subaru Turbo conv in his beetle - which is just bonkers

Subaru engines =
quicker (debatable)
more reliable (again - I'd debate that. Depends on who builds the aircooled engines)
more economical - everyone I know talks about 30-35mpg with Subara powered VWs
heating - you got me on that one...it is nice to have some heat
