right so far in doing the work on this sami i have found

a scratched screen
dead shocks
dead springs
dead tie bar ball joint
loose wheel bearing
rusty arches
rusty rear corners
bent rear bumper
bent towing eye and steering damper mount
no arb mounts on front
rusted front screen surround
damaged doors
crappy bonnet
wrong battery
crap exhaust
messed up dash board
pitted cills
rusted floor pan behind seats
damaged wiring loom
dented fuel tank

i look at that list and think ive made a massive mistake in saving this one. i think breaking it would have been a good thing.

but... ive got

replacement engine (bought for dijon)
complete exhaust system(bought for dijon)
add a leaf lifted springs (off my daily)
astra shocks and adaptor bar (old st up off my daily)
replacement front doors (bought for dijon)
a front bumper (off my daily)
16x7 modulars with new toyo ATs (came with a job lot i purchased)

and ive purchased an 8x4 sheets of mild steel

SO IM MANING THE FUDGE UP!! :weld:

:D

updates on this will come soon.

currently ive taken the body off and have stipped the chassis down to give it a clean and welld some bits up. ive removed the nasty tow bar thingy on the front and have given it a quick paint. all the lines have been removed and cleaned up ready to go back on

also found the front diff is fudged. can pull the flange out about 5 or 6 mm abd wobble it around

i have a replacement pair or 413 diffs so this means ive gota strip the rear axle too.

FFS :x

okay no pics again. i do have them but theres alot of them to upload

engine and box back in just need bolting together
fuel lines cleaned painted and refitted
brake bits refitted
braided hoses for the front to be fitted
t box back in
rear lights sanded down and polished up
headlights striped of overspray and frames shot blasted and painted black
front end removed from body
astra shocks cleaned and painted
poly bushes arrived
calipers removed for servicing and repaint.

taking a trip down to mike sunday to collect the last few parts and we have a rolling chasis complete :cowboy::

hoping to start on the welding and prep of the body in a week or so

going to chop out the slope between the lower and upper floors and rebuild in a newer simpler construction. its more cutting but ill be happier with the finshed result.

so long time no update (with pics  )
with many many steps back, progress is moving slowly. so ill catch you up with the progess and where i left off

so with the amount of repairs getting larger, i started a few smaller jobs so i can get parts ready for puting it back together. some of these parts would have been easier to replace but thats more money i dont want to spend, so one bent sami door was used for all the repair panels.

b pillar secton was unbolted. so i could sort this.

new section made.
Image
paneled and plug welded where spots would have been
Image

windscreen frame, ali mesh and filler.
Image

i repaired this with 6 different section. but can find the pic. doh!

i then moved to weld the holes in the front wings where some lights and a snorkel had been fitted.
old area was cut out and rectangular plates welded in and primed for now.
Image

i decided id take a look at patching the small hole if the floor.

pfft , thats tiny. up to this point i was happy with my fugly but solid samy purchase
Image

better have a little tap about to double check shes nice and solid...
unfortunately i end up with this, bumhats. she wasnt as soliid as i hoped.

so now with the body off i end up with a rather mud covered chassis to get to work on.
i have a 5 litre tin of black chasis paint and some red oxide that needs using so why not give it a lick of paint whilst im there. the brake and fuel lines are good (at least something is  ) so i gave them a quick clean and a paint too.

before and after
Image
Image
much better.

i decide at this point that wive got shedload to do so i chucked a load of of parts into my sammy and took them to work so ive got some stuff i can do on my breaks. luckily we have a media blaster at work too :D

engine mounts (unecesary but chuffed with the results)
Image
Image
finished in poundlands finest matt black, which seems to be very durable

rear light lenses.i have jap one side and a spanish lens on the other so i had rummage in the parts box and found some spare jap lenses. the lenses looked pretty rough but no cracks so a bit of elbow grease (okay, sand paper and tcut too) was applied and im happy with the results.who needs masking tape?
Image
Image
all lense lettering removed and polished up with t cut scratch removed and moldy car wax

next up i wanted to get rid of the engine crane i borrowed , so i chucked the box and new engine in to get them out the way. the gearbox had a little bit of muck on it
Image
Image

still a lot to do, but im getting there slowly. i never thoght id end up with with project when i bought this car but when its done she should be a sweet sammi. shame im not keeping it that long

updates to come , ive started the repairs on the chassis front end.so now the legs are the correct distance appart and have a new tow eye and bumper mounts. pics and update to follow soon.
