No because then it would be supplying the coil with a constant 12V rather than just when the starter is cranking. It would prematurely kill the coil as the coil is meant to only use the reduced 9V constantly.
The reason for that wire is to give the coil 12V during start up, the theory is that with the full 12V it will have a 'Hotter' spark to aid starting.

Ahhhh gotcha... stupid coils...
So in answer to this question:
(thick wire is 12v main start power, thin wire just activates it)
So in answer to this question:
The black/green wire should also be going to the starter motor, and connect to the same terminal as the thin wiremk1joe wrote:hi, ive wired up the new coil with the black/green wire but at the starter motor end it is disconected and im not realy sure where it goes. could anyone tell me where abouts to connect it or maby even a picture?

Re: engine cuts out
If the black/green wire was connected to the same terminal as the black/yellow (thin wire) the starter motor would run continual. The black/yellow wire has a diode inline to stop this. I really don't see why the black/green is there at all. I also found this pic when I seached for a 410 starter, it shows where I assume the black/green wires goes. But both wires seem to be doing the same job. Bloody suzuki no wonder I've lost most me hair

Re: engine cuts out
ok, it makes sense that it gives the coil an extra boost upon starting but this wouldnt effect my slow starter motor problem then. thanks anyway
