thanks yours is 8-) as well,the first sj i have seen for age's that has made me want my old one back

had a little play on paint today to see what sort of cage i can make/fit

Looks good mate, but you've drawn the lines in the back in a bit of a confusing way.
It's like one of those 3d cube optical illusions ;)

The line going top right to bottom left confused me!

This is my prefered set up for the back.
However IMO you dont need the blue tubes as this job will be done by the chassis if you are attaching it directly to the chassis.
Perhaps keep the horizontal ones across the chassis though.
As for the cross bracing I would think about how much access you want into the back, are you going to have a spare in the back? if so I would consider changing the diagonals on the rear stays so that it's easier to get a tyre in and out. Unless you mount the spare to the diagonals that is. :mrgreen:

the blue frame is where the cage will mount to and that will be mounted to the body mounts and rear chassis,the spare wheel will go on the rear cross brace if thats the way i go,if i dont mount the spare wheel on the rear bars i wont put a cross on them.
if your bored have a play and see what you can come up with,im open to ideas as it wont be antill next year i will start on the cage.


plus the two pics you have picked are different designs for the angle of the rear stays,the side on view is where the rear stays go to the top of the rear door where as the rear view the stays go to the rear floor

Would it be better to have the yellow cross frame more in the middle rather than at the bottom?
Might give it a bit more strength at the top, the bit that will get nailed in a roll...

Also, have you considered mounting the radiator on the back?

Maybe rad on the red tubes, spare tyre on the yellow tubes?

the yellow bars are only there for the spare wheel,if i dont mount the spare wheel there i wont have any bars in there.
i dont see the point in a rear mount rad,its more work and money for no gain,i have never had any problems with any of my off roaders with the rad in the front so i dont feel the need to mount it in the rear
