You're never too old, I did a course at my local agricultural college last year.

Only bothered to do a couple of hours today as the floor was worse than i thought, so I went away into the house in a huff
Also going to ask for some pointers as how people would best tackle the rust at the seat mounts/ seat belt mounts, and round the body mount struggling to get the grinder in :( verging on going to be a compressor and a small air grinder!

My plan was to cut the whole seat mount out and reweld it onto the new metal, also, for doing the floor in the footwell, am i better to shape this or is using just flat sheet fine?

Can't believe how long it has been since i done some progress on the SJ. Been too busy welding stuff for friends and helping with their cars to do my own :(

Once i've got that i'll get a small air grinder so the smaller cutting disc should help me get into the tighter spaces, and the compressor will come in handy come painting time.
Really want to get some serious progress done this time home, as ideally i want the SJ out for the winter
1. for extremely muddy offroad fun
2. incase we get snow
and 3. I've just bought a series 1 106 rallye which is away getting painted, so i don't really want to have it sitting outside in the weather.....

I was having the same problem as you and ended up attacking it from underneath with the body off as it was much easier.

ive got a build thread on here somewhere with all the pics but a few of the same areas, the body mounts were gone:

That was the next plan of attack, to take the body off and put it on it's side, although if i was to go down that route, it'd be after the new year as the rallye will be getting priority in the garage. Considering buying another SJ and having this as a long term project...... Watch this space

sounds like a plan, could not of done all the work with out taking it off, i pushed it back and had it up right on its boot lol

A lot of it is easier with the body off but it isn't a must.

I would just chop the seat mount off and re-attach it after repairing the floor.

Yeah it certainly does sound alot easier off the chassis. Plus i can replace all the body mounts at the same time, as the rubbers are all past it!

I think that might be the way to go Dan. Going to try get myself another SJ soon to get back enjoying the SJ life and have this as more long term project!

Finally abit of an update....
Going to put the pick up shell into a lock up to finish giving a VL to next year, as I've managed to get a solid tin top shell for it, so I'll be making as much progress as I can once I'm back onshore to get it swapped over
