Re: Tims SJ410 Build Project
This evenings update, front end off, engine and box out. Replacement engine cleaned a bit, swapped the dizzy fly wheel, clutch, gear box and starter motor across, tomorrow I will do the inlet manifold and alternator and get it put back in, and hope it runs better than the one I've taken out to please mister mot man. He didn't like the fact that I was burning so much oil he didn't even fully complete the emissions test as the garage was full of black smoke!
I'll put pictures up in a sec as my tablet has decided it doesn't want to let me.

Re: Tims SJ410 Build Project
Looks like we're going to have to arrange another off-road weekend so we can tune it up again.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: Tims SJ410 Build Project
because the carb was set up quite well i have swapped the whole manifold over with carb attached and everything, so if i can get the engine tuned like the last one, fingers crossed there wont be much more tuning needed!Edweird wrote:Looks like we're going to have to arrange another off-road weekend so we can tune it up again.

Re: Tims SJ410 Build Project
There may be slight variations in the tuning required with a different engine, but it shouldn't be too far off

Re: Tims SJ410 Build Project
Yea im sure a bit of tinkering is required, however got another issue to sort first! Got the engine in the other night, wired up all the basics, starter motor, alternator etc and tried to start it to check it runs, got a click, a random spark or two and some smoke....not from the exhaust....somethings not quite right!

Check all your main electrical connections, particularly battery and starter. Sometimes if these are super tight you don't get a good enough current. Especially if they aren't earthed very well.timwilks13 wrote:Yea im sure a bit of tinkering is required, however got another issue to sort first!
