I'm going to take it out for a test drive.
Hopefully it'll run nice permanently now and not just for 12 hours.
edited! good luck matey, hope it all works well!

How's the test drive go? it's been a while now so:

A: you're loving it and driven half way across the country?
B: you're broken down on the side of the road?

Hmmmmm almost a day now! Ed are you and the SJ alive?

Sorry, yes, I am alive. I spent most of the day yesterday polluting the North Lincolnshire countryside.

The carb seems to work properly all the time now that I've changed those two hoses. The exhaust still smells a bit petrol-ish and idles a bit fast but it's smooth and it pulls.

The self returning choke is a nice feature.

Nice one! sounds like it needs a little tune up to lean out the mix and drop the idle then!

Yeah, I'm just trying to find out from Rodger what needle it had in it when he sent me it, 'cause I have an ADS needle in the box of bits he sent me, so I was wondering if it might have the wrong needle in.

Okay, Rodger says that the SU's got an AAA needle in and I know that ADS is the recommended one. Rodger gave me a link to this website: www.mintylamb.co.uk/suneedle/

Here's a picture from that site with the four needles I've got on it, AAA, AAC, ABA and ADS.

I'm not 100% sure what it's telling me. Is higher up the graph richer or leaner?

Step 1 is where it sits at low revs/tickover but when you open her up and the needle moves towards the higher numbers the needle is quite a bit thinner so I will be richer higher up in the rev range.

They are easy to change and quite cheap. I would just get the correct needle before fiddling any further.
