Umm,

Colour looks like a camera artifact.

Size looks small as jagged hole edges look enlarged.

Not metal or wood, some fibrous material, maybe a gasket?

I'm gonna say a thing-a-ma-jig gasket!

Nice try, but wrong, it is metal with body coloured paint, unfortunately I had the bonnet up whilst I've been doing work and it's a little dusty in there!
