Aye, Dad said that over the phone too. He reckons he could make a 'D' shaped adapter easily enough. As for the intermediate prop, I've just asked Dad to measure it, but he thinks that the one we want needs to be slightly shorter as well as having the larger spline size on the input end. He said he was going to measure it 'between centres' on the UJs.

These are the two pictures Dad sent me showing how he measured the intermediate shaft:

Dad's e-mail said:
"The 5 speen box is approx 1inch/25mm longer than the 4 speed so this means the prop wants to be shorter by the same amount.
I reckon the overall length of the prop you need should be approx 15 3/8" or 391mm
Also you need the larger diameter splines to fit onto the gear box. Have not been able to measure these."

alrighty, my smartphone got killed by a falling piece of box section and that's my main access to tinterweb, I would imagine i'll be popping over one evening this week so will do some measuring

My HIF 38 from Silverfox/Rodger arrived yesterday so I'm going to get that fitted fairly sharpish because there's something wrong with the aisin one. It's running so rich that she stalls if left idling and is black smoking a bit.
I also understand what Rodger was talking about now with the ram pipe causing problems with the piston now.

The plate blocks the atmospheric air breather for the suction chamber. Should probably be able to solve that by carefully drilling a hole in the plate.
Also, Rodger, should I take it apart and clean it out, or have you already done that? It seems to have oil in the dashpot piston damper so I was wondering if you'd done it already.
I've got the SU fitted, all but two hoses blanked off. I couldn't believe how many connections I was blanking off at first, but they all make sense. Centrifugal ignition advancing, so no vaccum hose. Rocker box breather is in the manifold. There were two I didn't know what they did but Rodger had already blocked them off so I decided to try it with them still bunged and it fired up and once it had warmed up a bit it idled better than ever before.
I had to take off the resin insulator spacer to get the carb to fit on the manifold studs. I have a feeling the carb getting warm is a bad thing, but I can't remember for why.

Well, it's been in there for a day now and I've found that it's difficult to start from cold and the idling is intermittent, one minute it's idles beautifully, another it's lumpy as hell, and when you turn the car off a little pit of petrol runs into the airbox hose.
What have I done wrong? Carb has six hose connections and I've blocked four of them. The overflow (I think) and fuel inlet have been connected. Drives great under power once the engine is warm and is gutless when cold.

Update!
It now doesn't run at all. I have changed nothing since I put it on and it has gone from running better than ever before to having absolutely no life in it what-so-ever.
