Re: rock sliders ideas
I've seen Scotties and throughly snooped around it. It's well built to say the least, but we all do.things slightly different.
If you use "U" channel you'd probably need to lift the body up to weld the top seam.

Re: rock sliders ideas
My sliders are made out of 50x75x3mm wall box, the outriggers are 50x50x3.
I just did basic spreader plates as that's all it really needs and I had 5mm plate lying around, really I should have cut the ends like this <> as it increases the weld area and reduces the stress points but again the steel area I had weren't big enough to do that with. My plates are also plug welded in a few places on each. I do agree that using an L section so that it wraps around the chassis would be stronger but I do t think it's really needed.
And yes I tucked the sills up so that I didn't loose as much ground clearance as I would have with the sliders below the original sills.
Here's my fathers with 50x50 sliders

Re: rock sliders ideas
Got the metal today and I have decided to make them bolt on as if I needed to take them.of I can o Like the idea of the tow bar brace i will use 6mm flat bar on it so it is nice and strong and use 8 bolts to hold each rock slider on

Re: rock sliders ideas
Was actually going to suggest making them bolt on, I'm probably going to make the ones for my Lwb bolt on.

Re: rock sliders ideas
Depending on the condition of this tin top I'm looking at box section sills and modified outriggers to use the sills as body mounts too.

Re: rock sliders ideas
I personally wouldn't do this unless you use a bush set up similar to the original mounts, there is actually quite a lot of flex between the body and chassis, if it's all solid mounted then it won't allow this flex and could cause stress fractures in the body. I know rockwatt did it on zero, however he also pretty much turned the body into a spaceframe so it wouldn't flex like a normal Sj body does.Jordi wrote:Depending on the condition of this tin top I'm looking at box section sills and modified outriggers to use the sills as body mounts too.
