Like everyone else has said, you don't need much.
To be honest, my truck is heavily modified but the only thing that makes a big difference to it's offroad capability is the tyres. Get a decent set of tyres (second hand ones with loads of life come up all the tim), make a set of axle breathers (cheap) and then worry about the rest later on.
You'll be astonished where you can go even in a standard truck!
