Hang about a bit and wait for a few of the vit lads to have input.
I know you've put this in the Vit specific tech but just to make it stand out as Vit stuff edit your original post and add something like "Vitara 1.6 SPI" to the subject so they know its vitara stuff. A lot of people just look at the topic and not the forum its posted in.

Well iv wired in a universal lambda sensor hopefully correct and will see how that goes, looks like it was an origanal sensor so shouldnt hurt. As long as I wired it correctly

Just read that the lambdas on these fail lean so makes it run rich, will explain why my lambda was white like its been overheated, so fingers crossed, and mines just over 100,000 miles aswell so is due

Give it a run out and see how it goes bud. Sounds like the old one had seen better days.

I'm hoping that will cure your problem...my Vit does about 28mpg if I drive like a nun!

20 miles to £10 sounds like about 17mpg. I'd be expecting more like 35 to be honest. I don't know how you'd go about checking if the ECU was FUBAR'd

Seems like we have good news, I replaced the lambda sensor and have to say there is a definite improvement in the way it drives, I noticed my clutch isnt juddering so much now either, so was it clutch hmmm, its still there but no where as bad. Only thing im noticeing is a very slight sort of hesitation when im cruiseing so not as smooth as id like but getting there.
And tonight I did a 45 mile journey, put 10 in as useual and still got some left, so doing much, much better.
I can accelerate in 5th from about 35 mph now and the car sat at 60 for the first time since iv got it, and felt good, so I gave it a clean out and it goes well.
Got to deal with the sraping noise when I decelerate, sounds like gearbox :/
thanks for the help

And does any happen to know if ngk bur6et spark plugs with fit, they very tiny bit longer, not sure of clearances but I got a set here and they were a good plug that lasts.

Like you say I'd start with O2 sensor and go from there
