Looks like the auto choke doesn't work , so somebody has tied it open-off.
Split vacuum pipes can cause this not to open on warm-up depending on which ones are knackered but the wax element should still open it when hot. (Maybe not without help from the vacuum side :er: )
The hose is just "vacuum advance hose" available at any half descent motorist shop.

I did a similar cable tie bodge to the standard carb on my Sammi.

I really wanted to keep the original carb, not sure why really, I just did.

I fully stripped and cleaned it, sometimes it would run a treat, other times it would keep stalling, and the time I did the cable tie "fix" was because it wouldn't run slower than about 2,000 rpm. The cable tie sorted it though.

The standard carb is a totally over complicated PITA, bin it and fit something else!

I may just leave it for now then,I,ll replace pipes as some are a bit tatty and perished and see how it goes as when it's warm it runs and tricks over ok

People are often saying the autochoke fails, so which part screws up ??

Thermo wax unit??
Either of the diaphrams??
BVSV valve??


When people say fails, does this mean it doesn't go off (fully open)??

Is it possible to put a cable onto the linkage to make it manual??

My first view of it I Thort it was manual and someone didnt put cable on :hahaha:
