What a laugh main dealers not knowing there stuff! I also use Pebley beach (main dealer) for my stuff, there's 2 guys there 1 called Steve who is brilliant, when I first rang up and explained what I needed told me that he can still get everything for the Samurai apart from the battery tray!!!! The younger lad also didn't know what he was talking about and never rang me back! :thefinger:

I was once asked by a Suzuki dealer whats an LJ80 and who makes them!!!!

Another one insisted on a chassis no when I was ordering a spigot bearing to fit to an SC100 block. Problem was it was never fitted with one, but as I was converting it to fit to an LJ I needed to fit it to the crank. I explained that the engine had been removed from a car in a scrapyard and even if I had a chassis no it would be of no help anyway. But I was still told he needed the chassis no!!!! Think I eventually give him the LJ chassis no.

I once rang another dealer for swivel housing oilseals for an LJ, he instantly replied that Suzuki had no LJ parts whatsover. So I then said that I will have the swivel seals for a 410 as they are exactly the same and if they wern't available then suzuki must not be able to complete the manufacture of any new SJ410's (they were still in production at the time) . He replied that they wern't the same, however I insisted on taking them anyway. After he checked they were in stock, he must have checked the part no's, and confirmed they were in fact the same!!!

To be fair since I moved to York I have found Glen Garage in York to be very good and know a bit about LJ's, but I think they've been there so long that they were actually selling LJ's when they were new. I even managed to buy 6 brand new LJ air filters for £15 the first time I called in, think they'd been gathering dust for years, I must have been the first LJ owner they'd seen in years!!!!!

I had that problem too had to order a.new sump gasket and I told him that the engine in it naw is not the same engine that came out of the garage but he still needed the chassis no

I am a bit confused as I bought a sj 410 jap built
And it had an santana engine in it which didn't run properly so I swapped it for a non- santana engine

That means my sj is on its 3rd engine :cowboy::

When it comes to 1 litre engine parts I used to go to my local Vauxhall/Bedford dealer which was 400 yards from where I used to work and order them for a Rascal. Funny that they never asked for any chassis nos and never had any problems ordering the bits!!! Unfortunately the last time I called in I ordered some core plugs, when I called round a couple of days later the Receivers had shut the place!!!! Incidently the parts were always cheaper and arrived quicker than Suzuki and the only difference was they had Bedford stickers covering the Suzuki stickers!!!! How is it they were cheaper when they were supplied by going through an extra middleman!!

Dazer all 970cc engines use the same sump gasket ;) doesn't matter where it was built they're all the same basic engine so all use the same gaskets and seals ;)

I think with Suzuki's they use the chassis number make 100% sure they get the correct part, yes there are a lot of parts that interchange, however there are also loads of varients with lots of parts, look at DaveB's thread on the temp sender for example

Remember a lot of main dealers don't have people working there that know the older vehicles.
