Hi there,

I think you may have just got piston rings that have seen their best, especially on a 410. The only way to solve it really is to change them and have the bores hones again.

I know you've put another engine in it but did you see it running when you got it to know it was not at least as bad, if not worse than your old engine?

I think you'd be hard pushed to find an old SJ engine now that doesn't smoke a bit/ alot!

Be careful with and engine flush, with an engine that old some of that crap and soot and rubbish in the engine is what stops it smoking, it bloks up small holes and areas of wear, it could make you engine smoke even more.

i know it might sound stupid but have you checked the oil breather pipe that comes off the rocker cover? There is a metal gasket under there which could be worn or full up with shit and it could be blowing oil/shit into the air intake? Just a thought i had when mine was smoking like a full on smoke machine!
