That table's very handy Scottie, was about to ask the same question. My standard Sami has 205/70s on it and they are shot. I saw one with alloys (proper Suzuki ones I believe) wearing 225s on (maybe 225/75, not sure).
Question is, will my bog standard rims take 225/75s? I do intend an add-a-leaf to get some height back, i'm sure it has settled some in 20-odd years. Basically want to go a bit bigger than the 205/70s... what will the stock wheels take, plus avoid risk of rubbing on bits?? It's for road use mainly (sorry 'bout that!)

Ive had add a leafs. They are good for a cheap lift but
They are a bit harsh on the spine. I wouldnt have them again.

Stock height with some offset wheels and 215 75 15 is a nice look in my opinion.

Agreed Andy, looks bang on for a road / user. Harsh on the spine? What, even more than my tired standard ones... hard to imagine. I need a rethink, and a bigger budget.

Yeah I'd say that add-a-leaf are in the same category as shackles.... only put them on if you really have to!!!
I went shackles and add-a-leaf originally because my old 235 Kumhos came up for sale and it was the only way I could afford to make them fit for the MOT ;)

Yea they are a bit unforgiving. Also on older springs they tend to make the top leafs
Bend even more.

Tyre wise mine are Goodyear wrangler rt/s I paid 30 quid for 4 of
Them :doublethumbs: I think you can easily sort a set of part worns
For less than £100. I picked up a set of 205 70 15 hankook dynapro at tyres
For 40 quid delivered! They was listed as kia sedona tyres. I sold them
On for 35 after 6 months use.

Even if you do fancy a dip in the mud an sj with road tyres
Will still get you further than you'd think.

It was great fun at wagtail watching you and eddie nipping around in your standard-ish SJs... makes me remember how good they are standard

Depends where and whenyou go though i suppose, wagtail wasn't majorly hardcore in the summer... take an SJ with road tyres to Picadilly Wood in the winter and you'll barely get through the car park!

On the issue of the actual tyre O/D, I found this converter:

I found it very handy to get the actual tyre O/D for any given tyre size. I'm looking for tyres for some offsets at the moment (rims courtesy Andyrew) and am running standard suspension so need to be careful with clearances. According to this converter, the current 205s should be 27.2" dia, and 225s would be 28.3", 235s 28.9" etc.
If it's accurate (I'll check my 205s) quite useful I think.

p.s. my numbers all based on 75 aspect ratio.

Tire to rim standard is clear, no doubts about that... but i have one simple question. Anyone fitted 205-70-15 to 8 inch rim. Do I need to install inner tube or without it, will it work at all..? I am assuming it could work because of high profile of tire itself, it should not stretch too much. Besides price I prefer doing this to keep my trace as narrow as possible to keep rolling resistance down to minimum for mileage and clutch wear.

I think it would probably be a bit too narrow for an 8" rim... only way to really find out is to give it a go.
however, inner tubes aren't really road legal

To give it a go will be best option but dont have tires yet.
This question is to help me decide, thought maybe someone here have this tire setup.
My current setup is 195/70/15 on 5.5J stock.
