Mines slow like this 50-55mph tops, Mines a Weber too, I'm seriously considering a carb swap

What size tyres are people running? If 235/75 or similar then a 410 tbox will correct the gearing.

Really an SJ should easily to 60-65 so its going to either be gearing or the carb set up, a weber if jetted and tuned correctly should easily hit more than 55.

Also remember bigger tyres put the speedo out so you will be going faster than what the speedo says.

As said, with my zuk samurai mines basically stock engine stock wheels, Toyota carb, runs 55-70 all day anywhere, and on bigger roads with a slight downwards slope can easily hit 80-85 tops

Mine has standard gearing and an SU carb on the 1.3, and 31" tyres. Should be terrible, but it's not. Does 70mph without *too* much trouble, on the flats/downhill - but forget about that uphill. 60mph is about tops uphill, if I'm lucky.

This is according to GPS (DigiHUD Speedometer), not my speedo.

I think the special tracks do actually help, less friction maybe?

I suppose that's a possibility, but I used to have those 31" road tyres and the only difference I could see was better braking and far, far less noise. I did very few miles on those things, though.

Twiss that logic is really flawed  There's no way special tracks or any aggressive tread pattern will help.

Yes there might be less surface area contact with the road but there's a big increase in the rolling resistance because of the large gaps in the tread.

Had 80 out of the old one on 31s, that was 1.6 with standard carb, not the best journey. Sat happy between 50-60 but the noise wasn't good
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

I found an air leak in one of the breathers making it run a little lean, fixed that and now it seems happy at 50 - 55mph, which I am happy with.
It still sounds like it is drawing air in somewhere from around the inlet side of the engine but can't find exactly where.
