Yeah I guess that would be the problem then? Have you ever had it running properly or has it always been like that?

Might be worth asking Rhinoman.... he's the local injection expert

I believe with multi point injection you would just swap the injectors for larger ones.
But I am not sure you can do that with the single point system as it is built into the throttle body

I would say that it 'could' be the problem it's not a definite.

Pretty sure the main body of the spi system on both the samurai and vitara looks the same so It could be a 1.6 spi system just with the samurai intake pipework. tbh I'm not sure how you can actually tell the difference, visually when fitted in a vit it's got a slightly different top section of the SPI system but I'm pretty sure it can just be unbolted and swapped over for the 1.3 pipework.

I would start with the basics. Vacuum pipe work and there's a possibility that it's a fault with the TPS (that little black round thing on the front) it contains the TPS and idle switch. Is the engine management light coming on?

I thought that the 1.3 throttle body was a smaller size. Some people have had issues running the 1.6 engine with the 1.3 ECU however it only requires a few pins swapped to run the 1.6 ECU. I would start by checking for leaks on both the intake side and the exhaust side. Its always worth fitting a new lambda sensor as well because they tend to fade away without throwing a code.

From what I've seen they look pretty much identical externally. Think I have a 1.3 TB in the workshop so I can measure it up tomorrow. Might even have a lambda sensor but have a feeling I gave it to someone ages ago??

Anyone got a 1.6 TB they can measure up?

I have a couple of 1.6 throttle bodies, from memory its 45mm at the base. The injectors have different part numbers so its a fairly safe bet that they have different flow rates.

Hey guys thanks for all the advice.

Unfortunately ive never heard it running properly I was assured by the guy I bought it from it "ran fine once hot"
However I took this with a pinch of salt and I used it as a reason to get it for what I think was pretty cheap. I only paid £350.00 for it.

Scott thanks for the parts i picked up saturday. Got my hub all rebuilt and back on she is now rolling. Just need to sort this engine idle problem and should be good to hit the mud.

If the condition of the motor is unknown then I'd do a compression test, it may not be an EFI problem.

Will do.

Also I have noticed today a soot build up on the exhaust manifold so looks like an exhaust leak. Could this be a cause of the problem?

Also noticed the Check Engine light comes on when the engine stalls which happens after a few minutes of rough idle.

It seems to run much much better once warm what could this point too?


Any ideas what the missing tube and plug are in my vid?
