A grand is very very good money for a tidy, mechanically sound and low mileage SJ,especially one with little rust.
I think that you might have paid as much as 500 smackers under the value of the wee beastie.
And values are on the way up!
I must say I like it as-is. I'd be tempted to just sort the rust and call it job jobbed!
Oh, and regarding the winch, Defenders, RR classics and Discoveries run 12000lb winches, and they all weigh at least twice as much as an SJ (D90 is roughly twice as heavy, RR/Disco even more) so a winch that heavy may just weigh down your front end...

I have had the diff out and i'm not sure how bad it is, in the 6 years as a mechanic / MOT tester i've never had cause to take a diff apart as 95% of vehicles we see are front wheel drive..
Please can anyone in the know have a look at these videos and tell me your opinion..

I wouldn't bother repairing that. It looks to have had lots of water in it. The pinion bearings are shot, possibly the wheel line bearings too.
If it has been running like that for a while, the contact on the gears will be worn, and there is nothing you can really do about that now.
If you knew the history, and it has just gone, it maybe a repairer. But looking at the prop, and how long that must have been knackered, I'd bin it. Or keep as spares for a diff carrier, housing etc...
Count the numbers of teeth, and ask on here for a replacement diff. I'm sure there will be something lying about. I know I have some Samurai diff gears, but you will get a diff cheaper than rebuilding that.

Hi guys, the crownwheel has 41 teeth..
Also how much for new wheel bearings and seals and where best to get them from..
I took the diff over to our local gearbox specialist and he checked the wear on the teeth and said it looks ok but he did say "wow that's had a lot of water in it"

Diff bearings I would get from a normal bearing supplier and just go to Suzuki or one of the aftermarket Suzuki websites for the seal and crush sleeve.
I have replaced my rear bearings using off the shelf ones before but its a pain to remove the locking collar and put it back on and also if it still has genuine Suzuki bearings you wouldn't have a spacer that is required when using a plain bearing.
Therefore its easiest to just go to a motor factors for the rear bearing kit.

Called jimny bits and they want £60 for bearings and a rebuild kit, i have just had a look in the glove box and there is the original owners manual, 4x4 driving tips, service book, nearly every MOT its ever had, 2 blue log books and a ton of receipts, it has a 5 year MOT gap between 2008 and 2013 in which it only did 3,947 miles, guy never mentioned it in the advert, makes me think he heard the vibration, took it to a garage and was told it needed a new axle for a silly price and thought better get shot..
The carb had no oil in and the choke cable was all kinked so it was sticking on, going to have so much fun bringing this back to its former glory, passive keyless entry kit arrived today, with the addition of several other custom bits it will mean walking up to it will unlock the doors, turn off alarm and allow the push button start to work, one short push to turn ignition on and push and hold to crank as long as needed..
Over the years i've done loads of things like this for friends and customers with their cars but never had a project car, feel like a small child
