Yeah I'm not going mad with them lol. Just an inch or so. They will be 5mm thick steel so nice and strong.

So here is my new home made shackles. Only had time to fit this one, the rest will be done tomorrow. As you can see, slightly longer and nice and straight (compared to the other picture in this thread)!





And it has given it a good lift as well. These are 30" tyres and there is plenty of space to the arch now

I'd weld a bit of tube, angle of plate between them to give them some stiffness and keep them spaced correctly.

Yeah that's what I suggested originally, lots of people just weld a bolt in the middle

When twiss gets here with his super welder we can put in a bit of bracing and fix all the rust... and make bash plates and sliders... and..............................

I don't run braces in mine, I find it allows a bit more twist helping the springs to flex, never had an issue with mine not being braced and my rears are pretty long because of the yJ conversion.



I would trim/round off the ends of the shackles a bit though so they are less likely to catch and dig into stuff.

So have the new shackles and bushes got rid of the knock?

apparently not but still, seeing the state of the originals it can't be a bad thing

Apart from that picture twiss sent you, the bushed were in pretty good nick.. But im glad to have changed them and extended the shackles a bit.

On the front end there is a knock when you turn and bump up a pavement. As soon as the pavement puts pressure on the wheel sort of thing, there is a clunk noise. if i back down and try again i can get the noise everytime. It sounds like maybe ball joints but these seem solid when pryed with a bit of metal... The only other thing i can think of is the king pin/wheel bearings, but again the wheels and hub/knuckle is solid.. I do get a knock actually if when sitting still i turn fast from left to right, there is a clunk as i change direction.

For the backend, it seems to have got a bit quiet, but if i shake the car real hard i can get a very loud clonking noise to appear. I am pushing/pulling from the body, so body mounts are not out of the question.

I think its ok to drive. what do you guys think? i dont want to make anything worse (im not off roading it till these things are sorted so road miles only for now).

Triple post!! - I found out i need longer shocks! when dropping the leafs down for the shackles, i removed the shocks and got an extra 2-3 inches drop to make the shackles lineup. Then once shackles were done up, jacked under the leaf and re-attached the shock.. but they are a serious limiting factor now in my articulation. I heard astra shocks can be put on? is this correct, or what other shocks will go on that are longer? Or maybe just make up some shock extenders?

PS: yes i know not all shackles are the same length, they will be trimmed as scottie mentioned.... when i find time.
