Diff pinion bearings!

Post by Sjal90 » Fri Oct 31, 2014 4:35 pm

Evening all,

99% sure my pinion bearing has gone in front diff. Have ordered new ones from jimny bits plus rebuild kit inclusion new crush collor and oil seal, shims etc.

Basicly I've read a lot on the Internet about doing it but the Haynes Manuel looks to complicated.

How do you do it? I've read that people do it by feel. What am I feeling for and any tips for the job would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Big al

You can do it by feel but it's not ideal, the bearing preloads and backlash need to be set up to certain tolerances. In the transmission section there is the section frm the Suzuki service manual providing all the info that tou need.

If you can get the diff to me I can change the bearings and set it up for a good price.

Ok cheers Scotty I'll have a look now, I'm taking the diff off tomorrow, have found a garage near my work that will do it. Shipping it to Wiltshire will cost me an arm and a leg lol. Don't really want to do it blind, incase I break the diff :(
