Is there such a thing as an off road vegetarian? I suppose they would drive a land rover

They do exist i spotted one in the wild. This one drove a black sj with an orange trayback.

Offroad vegitarian? Those'll be those morons that have put an electric motor in a Defender 110 and think it's absolutely amazing. They had one at Silverstone when I went there for Formula Student as JLR is a sponsor but I was too polite to go over and tell them how their favourite new pet project was a massive farce.

Whats wrong with electric 4x4? Or because its a land rover?

Surely you have almost instant but smooth torque from a stand still and much greater
Wading capabilities?

Electric motors are great, my point is it's nothing new. They haven't done anything new or clever, like having a motors in each wheel hub and some fancy torque vectoring control system that'll apply torque to the wheels with traction and not waste power on wheels where the suspension is in full droop. They've literally just replaced the gearbox with a big electric motor and the engine with a ton of li-ion batteries and now they're pulling an Apple by throwing around words like 'innovative', ground-breaking' and 'delicious'.

Electric cars aren't any better for the environment than normal cars because the batteries are full of diabolical chemicals and require enourmous amounts of energy to produce. Hydrogen fuel cells are the way forward, but at the minute the human race can't produce enough hydrogen to start running cars on it en masse. As soon as they can, I'll happily do an electric conversion on my SJ.

I agree with that pretty much 100%. The Toyota Pious is probably the worst culprit, the fools who drive them think they are saving the planet...little do they realise the horrendous damage making that pile of junk costs. Batteries from Canada, sent to Japan via god knows how many other countries, and you can't safely dispose of them when they die. And when that happens the cost of replacing the batteries is so high many people lease them. So you don't even own your own 'car'. Twats.

Hey hey hey, all this negativity to electric cars. I work at a coal fired power station and a developing market for electric cars can only be a bonus to us, threatened as we are with emmission legislation! I'd love to see more choice in the electric car market and would have no issues driving one of my own - provided it would cost the same as a regular car and that the battery would cover my journey, I personally think there isn't enough push or incentives out there to convince regular people to convert. Who would spend a fortune on a shit Nissan leaf or whatever when you could get something bigger more practical and more economical. (ie putting diesel in the tank compared to replacing batteries when they reach a certain age) I just can't see electric cars catching on at the moment!

They will never catch on full stop. Hydrogen is the way forward but as far as I'm aware there is 1 station selling it in LA. Until the oil runs out they will never unleash Hydrogen to us, they are making so much bloody money out of it.
