Yeh I know what you mean, what is strange is that it was working one minute and then not the next.

Im getting frustrated as I have work in the week and my weekends are becoming busy with other things so i am never getting a chance to work on my car, ball ache.

yeah that is strange! just make sure you check the simple things first! my was working one night then i switched it off came back in the morning and it wouldnt go! half hour later not realizing id moved the main loom it started! unscrew your fuse board and remove the 4 plugs check that all the wires are soldered neatly and securely into there plug as this way my problem when i had the dash out! dont forget to screw the fuse board back onto the car before trying to start it as one of the screws is the earth for the whole board!

hope you get this sorted mate and some more time on your hands! will get those pictures of the central locking stuff this week just for you mate!

Excellent.

Well im thinking that it is an overfuelling issue. I have the carb off again, going to mess around with it a little more then put it back in and try it.

Hopefully this will do the trick and I can get tinkering from there.

I still dont know how im going to set it up properly though. IM also a bit worried about the wiring, when it smoked etc, surely not a god sighn, however if the engine is turing over fine then it must be ok.

Cheer chan, always there to give an answer.

Where are you based?

Im up in Edinburgh, dont get many SJ folk around here thats for sure. Wish I had a proper garage space, I live in the city centre so having to store my car at a mates still not garaged just in his back garden behind gates. Total ball ache to get to and work on etc.

I want a garage full stop, I am trying to find another spot for it thought.

im right down in the south east. yeah having a garage is great i cant actually fit my sj in the new garage as its full of spares for range rovers lol

my brother lives in maidstone center its not a city but a big town, he rents a garage from a fishing shop for 40 quid a month. may be worth looking in the local paper/online/cornershop for anyone renting a garage!

cheers :P

Little update on the truck and more help needed.

Basically I am now having a nightmare with the car, nothing seems to be working right and when I try to fix something it either goes wrong or I find that something else needs doing which is pissing me off frankly.

2 things...

Rear drum brakes, took off old brake shoes removed pistons etc to clean them all out and lubricate them, that all went well and pistons etc seemed to be alot cleaner and able to move a lot more freely. New brake shoes on which seemed ok, the whole set up seemed really stiff thought, like the shoes did not seem to be able to mve that easily, but I guess with hydraulic power they will be able to move. I then go to try and fit the drums back on and they just wont fit. I have car specific brake shoes and they look the same as the old ones but obviously the new ones have loads of pad on them compared to the old used ones. How do I get the drums on as right now I have no idea and it seems like there is no way that they will ever go on. Any ideas?

Oh and also when the car was jacked up the axle was at an angle and there was liquid coming out of the prop, to be honest it looked like water which confused me (I thought that maybe water had leaked into the shaft and was now leaking out, I thought that it might be liquid dribbling through from the diff? Any ideas about this too or is it fine???

My other real issue is with my engine again, as I have said in other posts my engine has been playing up and I thought that it might be the head gasket etc but was not quite sure, It was runnign funy anyway. I still need to sort out the inlet carb gasket as I think that there might be a small air leak. However today I removed the oil cap, there was mayonaise like stuff on the cap which I have read about, is this head gasket buggered time or what??? I think it is, but if there is any other causes for this can someone please let me know. I also looked into the filler hole and saw the mechanisms inside, there was no real sign of oil or anything like that, is the what I am meant to be seeing or is there meant to be more liquid etc directly in the oil filler???

This project is turing into a little bit of a disaster, I am still going for it though, I just want things to start going my way instead of always going wrong.

Help would be really appreciated.

G

Oh also handbrake cable does not go to rear brakes it seems to go into or near to the transfer box, does this mean that its a gear handbrake and if so how do I tighten it/make it work?

Cheers, and im so sorry for all the questions.

ill reply to the bits i know about mate.

if there is oil coming out of the diff where the propshaft is its the pinion oil seal.. never done this my self but someone will be able to tell you how and maybe find you a tutorial. first make sure its oil though matey.

the handbrake works on the propshaft with a drum brake (like on the rear wheels)

you should see a drum on the side of the transfer box where the rear prop shaft bolts onto.

if you look behind the drum there is a threaded bolt with a square on the end ( just like a bleed valve on the radiators in your house)

get a good fitting adjustable on that and turn it clockwise. it basicly makes the shoes close to the drum therefore when you pull up the hand brake they make contact. when you pull the handbrake up is there any resistance?

if theres not give that square bolt a good 2 or 3 turns and then try it :P

heres a picture of the handbrake drum with the prop shaft off.

Cheers for that Chan, I will have a look at that. The liquid from the axle I do not believe is oil, what is diff oil like???

The stuff coming out seemed clear (some of it was sort of rust colour) and did not instantly seem to me like oil.

Also any idea how to get the brake drums back over the shoes??
