Engine Spluttering

Post by The Bird Man » Sun Apr 20, 2014 12:39 pm

Just as I get one problem solved another one crops up. Right, basically after I got a gear box free so I can shift gears again, I took it for a little test drive, but I noticed it spluttering while in third and fourth when I put the pedal right down to the floor. Does this sound like a carb issue ?

Yeah sounds like carb or possibly timing... check to make sure you haven't pulled the vac advance hose of by accident

Is that the hose attached to the adjuster straight on the carb ?

it goes from the carb to the round thing (vac advance unit) on the distributor

Hmm.... This might sound stupid but I can't seem to see one on there :S I've got a Haynes manual and looked it up so I know exactly what I'm looking for but it doesn't seem to have one.

Ive found a few 410 engine pics and it looks like it should be there... try this

edit: although looking at that it may be a newer/foreign 410 with electronic ignition...

Yeah sorry that pic must be a newer model... I think its the indonesian katana...

OK then its not that... I assume you haven't had your dizzy cap off or moved the dizzy round while doing the clutch

I was going to suggest checking your fuel filter as Ive had the inside filter part break off from the outside, moving around and causing bad running. But as its new its probably not that!

Personally though (and off topic) I might consider moving the filter to before the pump. That way it will catch anything before it goes through the pump. I find its a good idea to have a see through filter where yours is, that way you can see the fuel moving through for diagnosis...
