What Is This Worth...??

Post by 88SJ » Fri Apr 18, 2014 6:18 pm

This is not a FOR SALE ad....its more of a dilemma

I really like this SJ but I have too many cars around and it is getting a bit mad..!!.. My house is the one with cars on the drive, on the road outside my house and the neighbour's house and sometimes further up the road...you get the picture...

I don't know what its worth. This is a tidy truck that I bought as it is without doubt the best SJ I have seen. I had a perfectly good Sami but it had to go when I saw this '88 model. Apart from the new one I bought in 1987 this is defo the best I have ever owned.

It passed its MOT today. It has been suggested that the bushes need replacing - I have a new set of orange poly-bushes but haven't got round to fitting them

The black bull bar in the snap has been removed and a white wrap round one fitted

Be helpful to have your thoughts on value..??..

Thanks
Paul

And the rest!!!! You can pay £450 for a wreck that needs loads of work. Tidy original SJs have been fetching well over £1500 recently, saw a Lwb in a similar condition go for £2500 on ebay.

Well on ebay since the beginning of the year 6 or 7 standard zooks out of 75 total have gone for much over £1k...
Think Jay ended up selling his for £800...

Really depends on what there is available and the interest at the time... I'd say £800's a reasonable minimum you'd get if you put it ebay tomorrow

Also you can pay £200 for something that doesnt need much work at all ;)

I'm not saying there aren't bargains that can't be had out there but it's very rare you can pick up an SJ that hardly needs any work for £200. The thing about modified SJs like Jays is that they also need to be modified to the buyers taste and that was nowhere near as original than this SJ and had loads of welding done.

We just sold my fathers tintop for £750 with a full mot and that was nowhere near as tidy as this either, it had lots of welding that had been done, some surface rust, scratched paint and a few dents. It sold to the first person who looked at it at that price.

A mint SJ with original good paint and no rust is worth £1500 all day long in my opinion and if it was mine I wouldn't accept anything less. Even £1000 would be a bargain for it.

yeah but its the different between what its worth and what people would pay for it ;)

i imagine dan can agree with this regarding helen's 410 -
the majority of people aren't looking for SJs for a £1500 mint condition truck, they look for something a bit rough and ready for a bargain price, or something pre-modded (to their taste) that they can off road without messing about (hahah yeah right)

there are some who want minters but they aren't the majority

Seen plenty of mint original SJs go for good money on eBay recently, people are willing to pay good money for tidy ones because not everyone wants an off-roader.

If I was selling I would rather wait for the right buyer than just sell it cheap for a quick sale, if you sell a mint SJ too cheap to the wrong buyer then it just ends up getting thrashed off road and there goes another tidy classic. That's just me though, I would rather see my pride and joy to someone who will love it as much as I did. I'm selling my SJ soon and I'm sure as hell not going to sell it cheap just so it sells.
Personally knowing what Dan and Helens sold for and how tidy this is I wouldn't let it go for any less than £1200-1250.

Yeah they are the top value 4 standard ones that went for over £1k...

Personally I wouldn't sell it... ever. Just saying though some people don't have the luxury of having multiple vehicles, never mind multiple zooks. Not everyone can afford to wait for someone to pay what they want for it.
