Vent pipe runs off the top of the tank onto a pipe on the fuel filler neck on the inside of where the fuel cap is.

Every time i undo the fuel cap there is a loud hissing as though it is pressurized until cap is released

It doesn't sound normal to me. I'd suggest the vent/breather pipe is blocked. The hissing will be air rushing into the tank.

Does it run okay on long journeys, as I'd expect issues if the vent was blocked?

It is normal, mine used to do it all the time, behind the fuel filler cover in the back there is the one way 'breather' valve (it's orange and black) you can take it out and blow through it to make sure it is ok, I took mine out because of this 'sucking' and replaced it with an inline filter but it made no difference to running, so I put it back in! speaking to people on here made me realise it's normal.
